Thierry De Mey is a composer and film producer. For the choreographers Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus and his sister Michèle Anne De Mey, he is often more than a composer; he is a treasured partner in the invention of “formal strategies”.
Thierry De Mey © Thibault GrégoireIn 1984, he founded the Maximalist! ensemble for performers and composers with Peter Vermeersch. Later, he took part in the creation of the Ictus ensemble. In 1993, he joined IRCAM where he developed several computer-music software programs and taught classes and conferences on composition and the relationship between dance and music.
He is currently the head of the choreographic composition class at P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels and is affiliated with the European multidisciplinary program D.A.N.C.E. In 2005, he was named as one of the four artistic directors of Charleroi Danses. In the audiovisual domain, his major works are Deep in the woods (2002-2004) and Counter Phrases (2003-2004).
