In 2004 when Philippe Leroux was the associated composer, Rivas followed the Cursus program in Composition and Computer Music at IRCAM. Rivas has since been involved in a range of artistic research projects on instrumental gesture and on the relationships between gesture, movement, and sound via electronic processing. The importance of meaning and of the body in music, the dialogue with other artistic disciplines, and the relationships between structure and freedom are at the heart of his artistic activities. He works with dance, film, and theater.
